What empathy means to me.

The definition is to understand and share the feelings of another. As a graphic designer who designs content for consumers, my goal is to build trust between them and a brand. But that that's easier said than done with savvy consumers knowing what's coming around the corner from retailers.

The meaning of empathy became more real to me while visiting the Grand Canyon with my family.

My son lost his favorite hat at the Grand Canyon during our sightseeing. We went back to to find it. We searched at every lookout, trail, and trolly bus without any luck.

After the trolly ride back to the visitor center, I asked the driver if he found it on his bus. He said no, but then said he would contact all of the buses over radio to ask. Another driver found it on their bus and transported it back to the station.

My son's trip instantly became memorable when he held his once lost hat in his hands again. At that moment we became an advocate to the Grand Canyon staff, because of a small act of kindness that didn't cost them anything.

It created a memorable human to human moment that is long lasting that will connect my family back to the Grand Canyon. That is something we can adopt in our jobs, community and family. Thanks for reading to the end.
